Have you ever gone through a large influx of residents who believe that given what they pay, they should be entitled to being ensured safety & security - even though you can't ensure safety & security (and the lease says so as well)? Have you ever messaged reminders about safety/security and where your limitations are building wide, beyond one-on-one resident meets? Would love ideas on this.

Yes, absolutely - if I had a dollar for every time I heard "I pay a lot to live here"!
We find that prompt community-wide messaging if there is a notable security issue (things like multiple-vehicle break-ins, or a violence incident) helps avoid the perception that we want to sweep crime under the rug and can also reinforce the limits of our responsibility by emphasizing where police involvement is essential, and even acknowledging that we're not privy to all of the information around the crime(s). We do also very occasionally send fairly generic safety & security reminders, but it's hard to measure the effectiveness of these.
When we start getting a lot of requests for things like gates or cameras where they don't currently exist, we often find that communication openly acknowledging the request, discussing our actions taken to consider it, and transparently communicating the decisions made (even when it's determined to be unnecessary/cost-prohibitive/logistically infeasible) can go a long way. Usually we have already spent a lot of time seriously considering those options, so it's just a matter of sharing that information in a way that's appropriate.
We feel your pain - hang in there!
