Is it just me or are companies shying away from training their employees now a days? I am sorry, but training videos during business hours with answering phones, and walk-ins and stopping the videos a thousand times is training? In the past I have trained people from the bottom up -hands on training so they would succeed and get promoted. I felt proud of the success stories and being part of them. Now I have to beg someone 5 minutes of their time to help me with something. Is this the new "Norm"?

Totally agree. I think what happens is that it is so fast paced, ABMs and PMs just have so much on their plate it’s hard to slow down.
I believe in doing things the right way even if it takes longer - similar to the saying like measure twice and cut once.
Training is crucial! I think what would be a good idea is if management companies created a “classroom” environment. Where new employees from maybe several different properties meet at one location and they just train for a month straight.
I once worked for the DMV and that is what they do because there is so much to go over. I think it would be really beneficial for leasing associates starting in a classroom setting because we are handling legal documents, finances, selling techniques, we are dealing with fair housing laws, sensitive situations (for me, I was never prepped on what to do if a resident was murdered 😳 - which happened) and other issues. Then I also think to it may help weed out those who are either not equipped for a job like this or the ones who end up quitting after two weeks.
I also used to work for Alliance Residential and I remember doing a one time “class”, where we were taught little techniques on leads, on how to be memorable etc. I loved it - and I miss Alliance 😭

No you are right. They don’t see a “need” for it 🤯

I agree as I recently experienced this. Though I have nearly 20 years in the industry each organization has there own way to do things. I wasted many hours trying to figure stuff out on my own

Training is sooooo important but yes, with all the onsite responsibilities, it tends to fall to the back of the priority list. I do work with several PMC's who don't let that happen and I think it's awesome!

At least you got a video. Over the last couple of years, I have been left to figure it out on my own to figure out new programs. I have been at the same company for over 20 years and now this is what we have come to... sad

It’s so unfortunate that most companies, even outside of multifamily, don’t invest time into their learning and development departments. I know large companies that don’t even have learning and development teams. No, you can’t always directly see an ROI on a spreadsheet but you see it in the culture, customer satisfaction, number of errors, etc. Learning and Development is never a bad use of funding and yet it’s the first thing to get cut…
