10. APARTMENTS: Please unlease me.
Most apartment complaints came from tenants who had trouble getting deposits back after ending leases. Some apartment complexes denied having ever received refundable deposits because tenants could not provide proof they paid it. Others had to call management “numerous” times. And some were miffed because of poor maintenance and housing conditions.
There are issues here, obviously, but I wonder what percentage of these complaints were regarding slum lords versus responsible property management companies. Seems that we need to find a way to differentiate the marketplace, beyond the over-used moniker "luxury".
