Exactly, so instead of putting a classified in the paper, put up an ad on their website but for their community.
I've been playing around with the idea but wanted to know if someone is already doing it and has seen results from it and exactly how interactive they have them.
We used to have banner ads on the ILSs, but I could not justify the cost. It's really and extra $ in your budget item. They really depend on the location on the page, size, if they are interactive, etc. I'm not a fan. I think your $ is better spend doing Google PPC.
Some are more affordable then another for sure and yes they are expensive, but I have sometimes in the past had to put up a $500 ad in the paper while I would much rather spend the same on an interactive ad on their website.
There are more affordable places to place your ad on then the local newspaper, which is why I wanted to get a feedback if someone was using it. My idea was on sites like yourhub.com, student newspapers, localized magazines etc
Keep in mind I only have the cost of placing the ad as I create all my marketing material myself.
My experience mirrors Marks. We placed banner ads on a local newspaper's website whose content mirrored our target market and while it generated a ton of clicks, it yielded exactly zero leads.
In all fairness, it was one source and we tried it twice.
