Our community was one of many that was hit by hurricane Helene. While we didn’t sustain major damages, we’ve been without power for several days. What can we do as managers in this situation with no electricity or internet? This is all new to me and I’m sure many others.

Guest Insider We had water bottles available limited supply.
We opened the pool area where the gas grills were so people could cook. Not swim… There isn’t much you can do, try and remind everyone not to use generators due to possible risk of carbon dioxide poisoning if you see people using them.

Guest Insider I would make the office a safe space: electricity (generator), a fridge, phone, internet and food and other supplies. Also, ask your vendors and contractors for help. Some of them love to help. Hope and pray for an expedited recovery and that all your people recover from this.

Guest Insider Go ahead and schedule a roll off dumpster to be delivered when it’s safe for everyone’s food. Provide a safe place for your residents. Gas grills, fire pits, generator at the office with a microwave…. It’s amazing to watch communities come together in a time like this. I spent 10 years in Savannah. Matthew hit us hard and it was honestly heartwarming to watch the residents and team persevering together.

Guest Insider Contact your county emergency management office. Explain the number of resident that are impacted. As for resource to stand up for your community. You are a small town “mayor” so to speak. Get involved with these resources and they will guide you to guide your residents. PM to chat if you need . What county state? Find your elderly and disabled…. Water… cool spot to land if you can stand up a generator and a portable ac… hot food delivery service from he resources… maybe able to stand up on your property. Guest Insider A fridge clear out block party. Everyone will likely be outside anyhow. Maybe a tailgate so people can charge thier devices while socializing.

Guest Insider We recently had a tornado hit one of our communities. I called around and found charities that had supplies available and set up a team to pick up supplies then we delivered to residents. We also bought bottled water, granola bars, etc and handed out.
