Little PSA. Don't lie in interviews. This is a super small industry and you never know who knows who or what.
We just had an employee who has been with us for a bit and is applying for a position at a lease up we just started pre-leasing claim in his interview with the PM to have been involved in leasing up 2 deals for which I oversaw the marketing (one of which is also where I have lived since it opened) through stabilization (with a prior company). I know he was not involved. One deal stabilized around 2008, the other was 10 months from first move in to stabilization in 2010. His resume shows he worked for the applicable company in 2015 for 7 months.

The way these companies qualifications are, some people have no choice but to lie! Plus all of the experience they require is kind of ridiculous! I’ve been in the industry for years and I’d like to think I’m a pretty great manager, and I still have problems getting selected. Not to mention I have my CAM and a Masters. While I don’t condone lying, I do understand ?

I’ve been a Recruiter in this industry for 16 years. You would be shocked how many people fib and get caught ? especially with claims of degrees and made up titles!

It's too small of an industry for that.

My ex isn’t in this industry but he lies through his teeth. His LinkedIn profile shows he has various college degrees yet the man has never been to college at all. He believes they just won’t check.

Very Respectfully recommend taking the details offline. Blasting a subordinate/collegue or others could have shockwaves beyond fibbing in an interview. Lying is not okay and will always have repercussions, but so will how it's handled.

May I add one, Karen? Also, don't talk badly about others! It never ceases to amaze me when people are ok with saying negative things about others in this very small industry.

This reminds me of the time I was in college in my senior capstone class and this kid who was the president of the radio club when I was a freshman claimed to have grown the club from 3 members to 30 and that he was responsible for getting the club to dj campus events blah blah blah… EVERYONE… and I sh!t you not, EVERYONE looked at ME and goes “didn’t YOU do that?!” ???? yes… yes I did over the last 3 years of college after he QUIT ☠️
Industry is too small like that class was too small lol. Tell the truth! Especially because if you get the job claiming you can do that stuff and then you can’t deliver, it looks worse for you.

Don't lie, period. Life is too short to not be honest.
