Guest Insider I worked for a company that had a little switch on the resident portal to “report to trans union” I always thought that was super cool, haven’t seen it since though. I think it’d be a great option.

Guest Insider Honestly as a young single mom working retail my credit was horrid because I paid my rent before anything else. All medical but it definitely kept me from qualifying for housing and my rent was never late. Thankfully I've worked my way out of that but now I have to deny people who are in the same situation I was in and it doesn't sit right with me. Rental history is far more valuable information.

Guest Insider They do it often in student housing. I feel like it needs to be more popular on the multifamily side.

Mark Tanguay Sure, until they're late on their rent and their lower credit score is now my fault.

Guest Insider I’ve been in the industry for 15 years. I could care less about your credit if you pay rent. If no rental history, then co-signer or high deposit. But depending on credit, that’s brutal. Especially in a recession. And rental rates are high w pay not really increasing. I would love to see a nice balance of credit and rental history to approve someone.

Guest Insider I feel credit is really a hindering part of society that some people can never dig their way out of which keeps them in situations they are trying to get out of. Absolutely agree and hope it changes one day.

Guest Insider I have used Rent Plus to report to credit and loved it.

Guest Insider Tenants can sign up for third party programs that report their rent payments on their credit. One of them sends me (PM) a letter every 3 months that says only respond if the tenant has made a late payment.

Erik McKinster If you have ResMan you can do credit builder, or residents can use KreditKarma, but some of these fools should be careful what they wish for

Tina Saunders You can’t report rent payments yourself. But rent-reporting services can get your credit reports to reflect your rent payments fairly easily, although the cost can depend on the service — some are free and some cost renters or landlords a fee.

Christina Marcussen Anyone who's gone through a divorce knows how fast it can tank your credit score. I've personally experienced not being able to rent a suitable place for me and my children even though I've always paid bills on time. A credit score is only one tool and doesn't always tell the entire story.
