Guest InsiderGeesh this is actually really bad. Like maybe candle burning but that would have to be literally all day every day? The carpet really shows how bad it is.
Guest InsiderThe cleaning lady on TikTok has said when she sees units like this it’s due to heavy candle use
Guest InsiderLooks like they had a fire! That’s smoke damage
Guest InsiderDefinitely candles. We included no burning of candles in our smoke free addendum. It can be so damaging.
Guest InsiderIf the air filter is black then it’s candles
Jose MacielA fire would have smoke on a top portion of the walls, I don't see candels making that much soot...Did the not have furniture, or nothing touching the floor except that one round spot??? How in the hell would anything be everywhere unless it was intentional? All I can think of is ground up charcoal sprinkled everywhere and the feed into the return air...
Jose MacielIs there a smoke or other smell in the unit?
Guest InsiderLooks like someone was using a Kerosene heater
Guest InsiderI once had a tenant who said she was "doing a black spray paint project" in her dining room and it looked like this all over everything.
Guest InsiderThis is mold. When they wash clothes and dry them inside. Air doesn't circulate under the bed or where big pieces of furniture are. By the vents since its colder it stays humid longer. I have seen this in my properties mostly residents from other countries that are used to wash by hand.
Lori SeguraI've had this happen if they use plug in air freshers as well, not just candles will do this. especially if they don't clean their filters on their mini splits.
Guest InsiderLooks like black dye. Does it come clean if you spot clean a part of it?
Guest InsiderLooks like they tried to spray paint the fan, got some on the carpet and then tried to spray it to cover it up.
Guest InsiderDont we all know!?! They left the apt the exact same way they received it!!!
Bethany McGuireChandler Rooks there was no smell though! It did have slight smell of cleaning products/pet urine. But no smoke smell at all! It’s so strange
Guest InsiderI had a resident who’s unit looked like this. She admitted to having those spiritual and religious candles all over her apartment with the votives. It’s any candle in glass jars that give off lots of soot.
